Using a Customized School Webpage

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this school webpage?

It is simpler for the school, the teachers, and the parents. You do not need to prepare and distribute unique letters to parents in different classes. The parents do not need to enter any codes--they just go to the school website.

How do I have PTCFast.com create a school web page for my school?

To do this, you go to Notice Settings and choose the School Web Page option. When you do this, the site will give you a link. This link will take parents to a webpage that displays the name of your school as well as a list of all the conferences you have set up on this account. When a user clicks on a conference name, he is given the opportunity to pick an available appointment slot for that conference (after entering and confirming an email address).

What disadvantages are there in making this choice (as against preparing a letter to parents containing a signup code)?

Anyone using the school webpage link will have the opportunity to sign up for any of your conferences. So it works great if parents know their childrens' teachers' name(s). With School Web Page, it is always conceivable that someone might sign up for the wrong conference, or perhaps even sign up for multiple conferences as a prank. Note, however, that anyone signing up for a conference has to provide a working email address, and they must confirm this address before they are permitted to sign up for an appointment. Thus far we have not heard of any prank signup issues arising with the system, but users should be aware of this potential risk, however remote.

Is there anything special I should do if I choose to notify parents of the webpage?

You should make sure that the conference names contain enough information that parents will be able to tell which one is right for them, e.g., you might say "Conference with Mr. Jim McDermott" rather than "Conference with JM".
